OMG. This is the easiest, most effortless but weirdest article I have done. Our guest contributor is far from being the usual: ChatGPT. It’s “it,” an AI and not a human. And I like it to share with you its OD experiences. Limited as it may.
Introducing Generative AI
2022 will be known for the meteoric rise of ChatGPT, a generative AI that can write (or generate) ideas via simple prompts that Google has thought us to do for many years. In the first five days after its release, Chat GPT amassed more than a million users! A KPI to be beaten in years to come.
Generative AI is a family of highly disruptive Apps (however you at them) that is Invading into competencies, once thought to be reserved only for humans. It is now powering the computers to do a bit of creative thinking. With very large memories and sophisticated machine learning algorithms, Generative AI can create original content in response to queries drawn from data it accumulated and ingested. With proper prompts, generative AIs can develop blogs, codes for App programs, poems, musical notes, stories, scripts, videos, and even theorize. These skills require years to develop among humans. Albeit simultaneously!!!
My Journey so Far…
Playing (or “jamming”) with AI for a year now. Used it to make “all originals” text, coaching, mentoring, painting, sculpting (via a friend’s 3D printer), music and poetry. Have yet to write in one hour novel and script, next year. Amazing journey so far. Can it design organizations? How about predict the OD trends for 2023? Experience it yourself.
Experiencing AI
After opening Chat GPT (), I got the notice:
Today, 24th December at 5:45 am, got the message: Dec 15 version update. Here's what's new:
We've begun to roll out chat history. You'll soon be able to view and continue your past conversations.
Among other improvements, you will notice that ChatGPT is now less likely to refuse to answer questions. We look forward to your feedback.
Designing Organizations
Prompt: Give me the procedures for designing a 5-person organization for a new start-up enterprise for helping the poor
ChatGPT: Designing a 5-person organization for a new start-up enterprise to help the poor is a complex task that requires careful planning and consideration of a number of factors. Here is a general outline of the steps you can follow to design your organization:
1.Define your mission and goals: Clearly articulate the purpose of your organization and what you hope to achieve. This will help you identify the resources and skills you need to achieve your goals.
2 Identify your target population: Determine who you will be serving and what their needs are. This will help you tailor your programs and services to meet their specific needs.
3.Develop a business plan: Create a plan that outlines how you will operate your organization, including details on how you will generate revenue, manage expenses, and achieve your goals.
4.Identify your organizational structure: Decide on the most appropriate structure for your organization, such as a nonprofit, for-profit, or hybrid model. Consider factors such as the size of your organization, the nature of your work, and your management style.
5.Create a budget: Develop a budget that reflects your projected expenses and revenue streams. This will help you plan for the financial sustainability of your organization.
6.Recruit and hire staff: Identify the positions you need to fill and the skills and qualifications required for each role. Then, conduct a thorough recruitment and hiring process to find the best candidates for your team.
8.Develop policies and procedures: Create guidelines and protocols for how your organization will operate, including policies on financial management, human resources, and program delivery.
9.Launch your organization: Once you have completed the steps above, you are ready to launch your organization and begin serving your target population. Be prepared to adapt and make adjustments as needed as you learn and grow.
Done in less than a second. Not perfect at all. But undoubtedly amazing. Tell me, what’s missing?
Predicting OD Trends
Predictions is aways an issue for ChatGPT. It’s a limitation of machine learning systems….algorithms can only spot out answers that it already have…not ready for the unknowns yet. Hahahaha.
Prompt: Give me 5 trends for Organizations Development or OD in 2023.
ChatGPT: I'm sorry, but I am a language model trained by OpenAI and do not have the ability to predict future trends. However, I can provide some information on current and past trends in the field of organizational development (OD) that may help you understand the direction the field may be headed in the future.
1.Employee engagement: Organizations are increasingly recognizing the importance of engaging their employees in order to foster a positive work culture and improve productivity. OD professionals may focus on implementing programs and initiatives that promote employee engagement, such as leadership development, team building, and communication training.
2.Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI): OD professionals may be called upon to help organizations create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture. This may involve training and development programs focused on DEI, as well as the creation of policies and procedures that promote diversity and inclusion.
3.Virtual work: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant shift towards remote work, and this trend is likely to continue in the future. OD professionals may need to help organizations develop strategies for managing and supporting virtual teams, as well as provide training on virtual communication and collaboration tools.
4.Change management: OD professionals may be involved in helping organizations navigate change, whether it be in the form of new technology, restructuring, or the implementation of new policies and procedures. Change management skills, including the ability to lead and manage change effectively, will be important for OD professionals in the future.
5.Sustainability: Organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability and may turn to OD professionals to help them implement sustainable practices. This may involve the development of programs and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, as well as the incorporation of sustainability into the organization's culture and values.

Scary?
By the way, these were the same themes that the ODPN Board of Trustees (BOT) had in an informal conversation last December 21 in Makati. Hmmmmm.
Here’s another AI reaction…
